Tabea, manager of the Zeitgeist Café in Lyon, tells us about her experience with Billie Cup

Tabea has been offering reusable Billie Cup cups since the opening of her coffee shop in Lyon in May 2023. She tells us more about her coffee shop and the introduction of returnable cups.

Can you tell us a bit about your café?

Of course, so I’m the barista and manager of Zeitgeist Café. Zeitgeist Café is a coffee shop in tune with the times. Zeitgeist is a whole German philosophical concept that explains the age of time. So we’re a coffee shop/café that does brunch, and everything is 100% vegan and we do our utmost to be sustainable.

How long have you been using Billie Cup reusable cups? And how have your customers reacted?

We’ve been using Billie Cup since the café opened. The vast majority of our customers are really pleased, they’re happy to be part of a system that’s more sustainable than disposable cups.

How do you explain the Billie Cup concept to them?

I explain to them that, as soon as there’s a takeaway order, we only work with returnable cups. So there’s a deposit of an extra euro, with the option of taking the lid for an extra euro. And customers can either keep the cup or take it back to us or to another coffee shop in Lyon that uses the same system, and we return the deposit to them.

Would you recommend Billie Cup to other coffee shops?

Yes, 100%.

And finally, what’s Billie to you?

For me, Billie is a modern system that offers a more sustainable way of life.
